When I was a kid, we lived next door to what native Floridians call snowbirds, people who lived up north but came to Florida to escape the cold winters.
These snowbirds worked for a publisher, and one year, they brought me an illustrated children’s dictionary. I read it like a novel.
One picture stuck out to me: a large cartoon man with a top hat accompanying the word DABBLE.
I memorized what was written under the picture:
I dabble in so many things. I sing. I write. I strum on strings.
That’s when I knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life: dabble.
